Heritage Prairie Farm 2010 CSA Program:
This decision was made as part of a bigger decision to expand our growing area for 2010. We have acquired the rights to grow on a substantial parcel of land adjacent to the farm.  This October, we begin the investment of bringing this new property back to a healthy, organic state. This expansion will enable us to increase what we can provide to restaurants and to markets—but most importantly, it allows us to grow food directly for families as shares in a CSA.

Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a wonderful connection between the farm and the people who eat the food the farm produces. By making the commitment ahead of time, CSA shareholders help to pay for seeds, labor, water, equipment management and, in our situation, the investment to nurture and establish healthy soils that have been neglected by years of conventional farming. In return, shareholders will have opportunities to volunteer in the planting and harvesting as well as be able to enjoy delicious produce throughout the growing season. As a shareholder, you will be experiencing the risks and joys of vegetable farming. As nature offers no guarantees about how bountiful the season may be, unfortunately, neither can we. You can be assured, however, that we will do our best to provide the highest quality and the best selection of what the season can offer

Heritage Prairie’s CSA will begin the first week of June and run weekly through October. We will also offer 2 holiday shares—one each before Thanksgiving and Christmas—totaling 25 weeks of delicious farm-fresh produce. The size of the weekly share is designed to feed a typical family of four. The quantity is approximately 1/2 bushel, or in other words a full brown paper bag. If you have a smaller family, you may want to consider splitting a share with a friend.
